What is Esophageal Stenting?

It is a process of placing a stent possibly self-expanding into the esophagus to keep a blocked area open that helps the patient to easily swallow soft food and liquid.

This process is mainly used in treating esophageal cancer or malignant dysphagia.

How is it performed?

These are metallic stents, or sometimes plastic or silicone, and the stents may be self-expandable. The stent is placed in the esophagus to keep the blocked area open.
