Liver Biopsy is the procedure of collecting liver tissue samples for laboratory examinations.
Liver Biopsies are common in diagnosing and staging various liver diseases such as – Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, chronic hepatitis B or C, Alcholic liver disease, Wilson’s disease, Hemochromatosis, Primary biliary cirrhosis, Primary sclerosing cholangitis, Autoimmune hepatitis. Depending on the circumstances the doctor will decide whether a percutaneous(insertion in the liver), transjugular(insertion into a vain in neck), or laparoscopic(insertion in abdomen) liver biopsy is the best option for you.
We recommend Liver Biopsy if your blood tests or imaging suggest that there is a problem with the liver or there is an indication the severity of your preexisting liver disease is changing.
To perform this procedure a small needle is inserted into the liver, vain, or abdomen to collect tissue samples, that later gets analyzed in the laboratory.
